Samsung Unveils New Eco-Friendly Blue Earth Phone

Every place we look it seems that a new initiative to save the planet is being put in to effect. Starting with recycling, the push to be “green” has changed how we drive with the emergence of fuel efficient cars, how we use household appliances like washing machines and refrigerators, and now, how we use our cell phones.

SAMSUNG recently launched an environmentally friendly cell phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Following their philosophy, “The Blue Earth Dream: Eco-living with SAMSUNG mobile,” they developed the first touch screen cell phone that runs on solar power. To eliminate using extra energy charging your phone, the phone dubbed “Blue Earth” is equipped with a solar panel which it draws its power from.

If running on solar power isn’t “green” enough for the hemp wearing, ultimate frisbee playing hippies out there, SAMSUNG has a few more surprises in store. All Blue Earth phones are manufactured from a recycled plastic called PCM, which is extracted from water bottles and reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions during the assembling process. Additionally, the handset charger supplied is free of substances that are in many household electronics such as Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate, which studies are now showing can be extremely harmful to your health.

Don’t mistake the Blue Earth as the cell phone equivalent of the smart car. Its sleek look is designed like a shinny blue pebble and it comes with all the standard features one would expect from a cell phone. In fact, it has more than most cell phones. Blue Earth comes with an ‘Eco Walk’ function which includes a pedometer that tracks how far you walk, as well as a program called ‘Eco Mode’ that tracks your carbon footprint so you can see how much greenhouse gases you are producing. The hottie guitar playing chick in the park will surely appreciate how energy efficient you are.

Let me just put it this way; This phone is so environmentally friendly, it would give Captain Planet a hand job. Although most men can’t get any play by running around in blue spandex saving the earth’s forests and rivers, you can most certainly turn your newly found appreciation for the earth into a renewable energy resource…wink, wink. From all I’ve read and the pictures I have seen, the SAMSUNG Blue Earth really seems like a great option for the alpha men out there that are eco-conscious. Look for it to be on sale in latter part of the year.
